Every riding school is unique in the way it operates, but often the risks are similar. Riding and owning horses is what motivates us, and over 50 years of equine experience tells us that working with horses in any capacity can be dangerous. As a riding school, ensuring your riding school insurance policy reflects the course you are on is invaluable.
Whilst some riding school risks are obvious, finding insurance that fits around you can be stressful and time-consuming. An injury to one of your clients or horses could occur. Perhaps the buildings you use have been damaged. What if the weather affects your in-house café or tack shop, potentially derailing the growth you had planned?
Our riding school cover is vast, and a policy can include:
- Public liability and Products liability to protect you in situations involving the people you teach and visitors
- Employers’ liability for those that help you with your business
- Care, custody and control to protect you and your employees when caring for other peoples horses
- Property cover for commercial or domestic use, with the ability to include cover for business interruption and business money
- Hiring out of your facilities and arenas
- Shows, events and camps protecting you as the organiser
- Cafés and tack shops covering business interruption, stock and more

Frequently Asked Questions
SEIB’s policies can be tailored to cover most equestrian activities and equine facilitated learning (EFL) is something we frequently come across. Cover for EFL and therapy can be included for activities on your premises but can also cover you to go offsite to care homes and other locations.
The main difference between livery yards and riding schools is that a riding school need to be licensed and one of the requirements of the license is that the riding school must have valid insurance in place covering them for their riding school activities. The insurance needs to protect the riding school against claims where the horse is not suitable or the equipment is faulty.
Information needed will include horse numbers, activities and employee numbers. This can either be done over the phone with one of our experienced equestrian specialists who would be happy to go through each question with you, alternatively we have a proposal form which you can complete at your leisure. At SEIB we pride ourselves on ensuring we fully understand the business we are insuring so that we can be sure you are getting the correct cover.
Each policy can be tailored to cover each individual business for the activities they carry out.
