Accidents happen when we least expect them to, and they can turn your life upside down within seconds. That’s why working with ‘A’ rated, UK-based insurers Accident & Health Underwriting Ltd, we’ve developed an Equestrian Personal Accident Insurance policy that can give those with equestrian occupations, such as freelance grooms and riding instructors, a financial safety net should they have an accident that stops them from working.
Personal Accident Plus Insurance (PA Plus)
Our PA Plus policy has been specifically designed with freelance grooms and riding instructors in mind. We’re happy to look at providing cover for other equestrian occupations, but this excludes professional horse riders.
For the purpose of this insurance, we define professional horse riders as those who receive a wage/fee in return for competing on behalf of a third party in a competition, or rely on prize money as a main source of income.
Cover under PA Plus is sold in units, and you can purchase up to a maximum of 5 units.

PA Plus Frequently Asked Questions
What does permanent total disablement mean?
This means disablement which prevents you from attending to the duties of your usual business or occupation and which lasts twelve months, and after this time is beyond hope of improvement.
Does PA Plus cover me if I am ill and unable to work?
No, the standard cover under PA Plus is limited to incidents of accidental bodily injury only. However, if you’d like to add Illness cover then please get in contact so we can discuss your requirements.
Why is it best to arrange Personal Accident Insurance with a specialist equine insurance provider?
Personal Accident Insurance is widely available, but the vast majority of policies will list horse riding as an excluded activity. However, by going to an equine specialist like SEIB you can be confident that we’ll arrange cover that’s been tailored to your needs.
Does PA Plus only cover me whilst I am riding or handling a horse?
No, cover under the PA Plus policy operates on a 24 hour basis, meaning that as long as you’re not injured due to an excluded activity, you’ll be covered even if the injury was caused by a non-equine related event (for example a car accident) provided the injury entirely prevents you from working in your usual business or occupation.
What is an excess period?
An excess period is the number of days at the start of a loss of earnings claim during which policy benefits are not payable. So for example, if the excess period is 14 days, you would not be able to claim for any loss of earnings during the first 14 days that you’re unable to work.
Personal Accident Essential Insurance (PA Essential)
We also offer Personal Accident Insurance for general horse riding, to protect individuals who own a horse or participate in horse riding at a riding school or equestrian centre. We call this our PA Essential policy. PA Essential costs from £40 a quarter and will provide you with the following protection when you’re riding or handling horses:
